Former brother-in-law-Salhaj and mother-in-law attacked with a slap, brother-in-law died

Divorced two years ago, sister had remarried, ex-husband was angry with this

New Delhi. In East Delhi’s Kalyanpuri on Saturday morning, a man attacked his ex-brother-in-law-Salhaj and mother-in-law with a slap after throwing chilli powder in their eyes. All three were badly injured in the attack. The three injured were rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, where brother-in-law Neeraj (40) was declared brought dead, while the condition of Neeraj’s wife Vimal (38) and mother Sunita (60) remains critical. Accused Mahendra ran away due to noise. Neeraj’s sister Vandana had remarried in August last year after divorcing Mahendra two years ago. Mahendra was quite upset with this. It is suspected that this is the reason why he has committed the crime. Kalyanpuri police station has registered a case under other sections including murder, attempt to murder.
According to the police, Neeraj lived at T-2, Kalyanwas, Kalyanpuri. Apart from wife Vimal, son Vineet, elderly mother Sunita is in the family. About 12 years ago Neeraj’s sister Vandana was married to Mahendra, a resident of Pauri Garhwal (Uttarakhand). After a few days of marriage, there was a dispute between the two. About two years ago, Vandana got divorced from Mahendra. Presently she was living separately with her second husband.
It is alleged that the accused Mahendra reached Neeraj’s house at around 6:45 am on Saturday morning. Neeraj’s wife Vimal opened the door. The accused threw chili powder in his eyes and attacked him with a chapada. When Vimal shouted, Neeraj reached there. The accused also threw chilli in his eyes. After this, Neeraj was hit several times with a slap. The accused did the same with Neeraj’s mother Sunita who was sweeping outside. The accused also tried to attack Neeraj’s son Vineet (14) who was sleeping inside, but the accused fled when people came. On information, the police took the three injured to the hospital, where Neeraj was declared brought dead. The police recovered the sandpaper used in the incident from near the spot. Police is investigating the matter with the help of CCTV cameras installed nearby. The rest of Neeraj’s family members are being interrogated. It is believed that being angry with Vandani’s second marriage, Mahendra carried out the incident.
Used to threaten to kill on second marriage
A relative of Neeraj told that Vandana had divorced Mahendra two years ago after being very upset. Both have a seven-year-old son here. In the beginning, Vandana stayed with her son in her maternal home, but later took a rented house and started living in 21 Block Trilokpuri. Vandana got married last August. This was also her husband’s second marriage. He had a daughter from his first wife. When Mahendra came to know about Vandana’s marriage, he got furious. He asked Vandana to leave her husband. If he did not do so, the accused had threatened to kill him.
